MOTHER TONGUE ENGLISH SPEAKING/BILINGUAL
Saint Hubert
Monday-Friday- 7h30 à 17h30
Mrs Connie Daycare
Been doing daycare since 1997. Non-smoker. Multi-age group with toys for all ages.
Bilingual/mostly English. Material to help the children develop in the fields of cognitive, social & moral, language, physical & motor skills, affection & sympathy.
We need: respect, confidence, empathy and communication which is very important to all. We work as a team to raise the children.
Children learn through play. Toys are fun, but toys are also tools that help children learn about themselves and the world around them. Play is critical to the healthy growth and development of children. As children play, they learn to solve problems, to get along with others and to develop the fine and gross motor skills needed to grow and learn.
Learning to cooperate, negotiate, take turns and play by the rules are all-important skills learned in early games. These skills grow as the child plays. As a result, children learn the roles and rules of society.
Integration is Slow, a few hours at a time. At child's pace if needed. No full days/weeks at first.
Toys are fun, but toys are not the only tools that help children learn about themselves and the world around them. Play is critical to the healthy growth and development of children. As children play, they learn to solve problems, to get along with others and to develop the fine and gross motor skills needed to grow and learn.
Throughout their day, there are moments & opportunities to develop, social skills, to share, communicate with each other, respect feelings and more that are very important. The group has the opportunity to play solitary, parallel or as a group. I believe that a child should be able to play freely. I am there to guide them.
Play helps a child do the following:
• Develop physical skills. Gross motor skills are developed as a child learns to reach, grasp, crawl, run, climb and balance. Fine motor skills are developed as children handle small toys.
• Develop cognitive concepts. Children learn to solve problems (What does this do? Does this puzzle piece fit here?) through play. Children also learn colors, numbers, size and shapes.
They have the ability to enhance their memory skills as well as their attention span. Children move on to higher levels of thought as they play in a more stimulating environment.
• Develop language skills. Language develops as a child plays and interacts with others. This begins with playing cooing games with children and advances to practical levels such as make-believe stories and jokes.
• Develop social skills. Learning to cooperate, negotiate, take turns and play by the rules are all-important skills learned in early games. These skills grow as the child plays. As a result, children learn the roles and rules of society.
Willing to take a child with a disability. I have worked with a child on the Autism Spectrum. Would like to continue to work with special needs children.
The structure of my milieu is located in the basement. Large indoor about 23*25 feet large playroom, this in not including the kitchen & bathroom that is private to daycare/large outdoor play area too. It is inviting, interactive, very large playroom, open, bright natural light because of many large windows, well organized & stimulating and full of opportunity to develop. There is a kitchen in the basement as well for meals times and crafts. The bathroom is very accessible to the children. No hot water there to prevent burns, no doors to prevent injuries.
There is routine for the children which is very important for them. There are certain toys always available to the children. All the others are behind cabinet doors. These toys are taken out in rotation or when a child requests certain games or toys. This is a way that I can have control over the mess, and a way of making sure that all children play with all elements available to help their development. There is 2 large outdoor play areas. This is fenced in and has many ride on toys and sport equipment and climbing structures & mini trampoline available.
The activities and play toys that I can offer to the children are of range for all levels and ages. I have material to help the children develop in the fields of cognitive, social & moral, language, physical & motor skills, affection & sympathy.
These are some ideas of the things that I work with the children on a daily bases.
Components to develop physical & motor skills are:
• Recognize the physical needs: eating, sleeping, toilet training
• Large motor skills: move, run, climb, throw, maintain balance, lift & more
• Fine motor skills: hold, mold, use tools(pencils for example) language, coordinating hand-eye movements
• Senses: tastes, touch, feel etc…
Components of social & moral skills are:
• Discovery of the others & conscience
• Dialog, cooperation, solving conflicts
• Respecting rules
Components for affection are:
• Self esteem & confidence
• Autonomy , individual identity, attachment to others
Components for cognitive development:
• Memory, concentration
• Logic, creativity
There is also the language to develop.
I hope that this information was clear and informative for you. Thank you.
Mrs Connie Haymond
